Fish Guisado

Fish Guisado
Guisado is a Portuguese word which means stew.  Fish Guisado is a mild curry and can also be made with red / white meat and made with roundels of tomato, onions & bell pepper. Relish with bread!!!!
Ingredients Quantity
King Fish Steak 200 gms
Ginger Garlic paste ½ tsp
Turmeric Powder ½ tsp
Vinegar 1 tbsp
Cloves 4 nos.
Cinnamon 1 inch piece
Cumin Seeds ¼ tsp
Pepper corns 6 nos.
Coriander seeds ½ tsp
Green Chilies 2 nos
Rice Flour ½ tsp
Onion, cut into roundel of ½ cm thickness 1 Medium
Tomato, Cut into roundel of ½ cm thickness 1 Medium
Capsicum, Cut into roundel of ½ cm thickness 1 Medium
Coconut milk 1 cup
Water or fish stock 1  cup
Oil 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Preparation Method:-

  • Marinate the fish in the mixture of ginger garlic paste, Vinegar, turmeric powder and salt to taste for 30 minutes.
  • Take a flat bottom pan, add 1 tbsp of oil and Shallow fry the fish till half done, say  1 minute on each side. Keep aside.
  • Grind the dry spices along with green chilies with little water to a very fine paste.
  • Take a flat bottom pan, add oil, when oil is hot add the roundels of onion, tomato and capsicum, stir fry gently for ½ a minutes without breaking the rings.
  • Add the ground paste and the water or fish stock. Bring to boil.
  • Add the rice flour dissolved in 2 tbsp of water. Mix well.
  • Add the coconut milk , bring to boil, very gently leave the fish into the pan.
  • Add salt to taste. Swirl the pan very gently taking care not to break the fish.
  • Put off the flame. Serve the Guisado without Goan bread.
